Thriving Communities Fund 

The aim of the Thriving Communities Fund is to bring together place-based partnerships that strengthen local infrastructure for social prescribing. Furthermore, the fund aims to plan and deliver a range of community-level activities and support by addressing community well-being. In delivering this, the fund seeks to make these partnerships and funding of delivery sustainable over a long-term perspective.  

  • 12 months (March ‘21-march ‘22), £1.4m programmes 

  • £1.15m from National Academy of Social Prescribing/£250k from Arts Council National Lottery 

  • Grants of £25-50k + minimum 20% cash match 

  • Seeking even distribution across 7 NHS England regions 

The Thriving Communities Fund will be delivered by partnerships/consortia across culture, sport, natural environment, health and the wider voluntary and community sector.  

Important information: 

  • Lead applicants should be registered charities, community interest companies, cooperative societies or community benefit societies. 

  • Every project evidence must have a minimum of 3 core partners at the application stage (including one cultural) 

  • Every project needs a letter of support from a local social prescribing link worker.  

  • Applications can be led by VCFSE organisations working in any of the following sectors:

    •  Arts and culture (inc. Libraries, museums & heritage) 

    • Sport, leisure & physical activity organisations 

    • Financial well being, advice, food and practical support 

    • Environment and nature-based organisations 

    • Non-statutory health and care organisations, working with social prescribing link worker 

  • Applications must demonstrate a commitment to work with partner organisations from all of the above sectors during the funded period.

  • 8th January - applications close 

  • 8th March- applicants notified  

  • 15th March – successful grantees announced/ Social Prescribing Day
