After almost four decades of dedicated support to the not-for-profit sector, Network for Europe (NfE) has announced it will close its doors. Since 1986, NfE has played a vital role in helping charities, community groups and social enterprises across the North West access and manage European funding – unlocking opportunities that have strengthened communities across the region.

As part of its closure, and in line with its articles of association, NfE has chosen to leave a lasting legacy. Working in partnership with Voluntary Sector North West (VSNW), the organisation will distribute its remaining funds in the form of a one-off £500 legacy grant.

The grant will go to a small not-for-profit organisation in the North West, with a turnover under £100,000, to celebrate and share an activity they are proud of. The activity should promote community cohesion and social integration – whether that’s supporting newcomers such as refugees and asylum seekers to feel part of society, encouraging volunteering, or helping people take the next steps to improve their lives.

Importantly, the funding will be unrestricted, meaning the successful organisation can use it in whatever way best benefits their work and the people they support.

How to apply

Organisations should submit an application of no more than 750 words, covering five short questions about their organisation, their purpose, the activity they wish to highlight, what makes it effective, and how others could learn from it.

The deadline for applications is Monday 3 November 2025. Applications should be sent to info@vsnw.org.uk.

The successful organisation will be announced and presented with the grant at the VSNW Annual Conference in Manchester on Thursday 27 November 2025.

Who can apply?

The grant is open to small charities, social enterprises, co-ops, and voluntary/community organisations based in the North West of England. Applicants must be willing to share their story with the wider VSNW membership, with our support, for example through social media, events or a free publication.
