The Marmot Review was carried out in order to propose the most effective evidence-based strategies for reducing health inequalities in England from 2010. The Review is calling for health inequalities to sit alongside tackling climate change as the core of society’s achievement. Creating a sustainable future is, the Review says, entirely compatible with action to reduce health inequalities: sustainable local communities, active transport, sustainable food production, and zero carbon houses will all have health benefits across society.
VSNW is a membership organisation, and many of its members are also membership organisations. VSNW is therefore sometimes described as a network of networks.
VSNW is the regional voluntary sector network for the North West. Our purpose is to support a connected and influential voluntary and community sector (VCS).
Demonstrating the local economic and social value of grant-making with the VCS
This new 'think piece' from the Centre for Local Economic Strategies, commissioned by VSNW, explores the shift from grants to contracts, and the value of grant-making within the voluntary and community sector.
VSNW’s work centres around identifying opportunities for the VCS to be involved in the design, implementation, governance and support structures of European projects.
One of VSNW's roles as the regional network is to provide a voice for the voluntary and community sector at a regional level. One of the ways It does this is through representation, and below are some of the national and regional bodies that VSNW staff currently sit on.
VSNW is involved in a number of strategies to tackle the impact of the recession.
We have three key aims:
to support VCS groups to help individuals, families and local communities
to minimise the impact of changes and reductions in funding on VCS groups
to enable VCS groups to develop and access new opportunities, particularly those linked to supporting communities to thrive and recover from the recession.
