This project aims to mobilise a citizen-led social movement for cancer prevention, harnessing the energy of both Greater Manchester (GM) citizens and the VCSE sector.

The project aims to shift the balance towards prevention, understanding how to motivate people to make lifestyle choices that reduce their risk of developing cancer. It is one of four projects which make up the prevention workstream of the GM Cancer Vanguard, and is commissioned by the GM Health and Social Care Partnership.

The project aims to achieve the following:

  •  Recruit 10,000 cancer champions by 2018
  • Use digital technology to connect and empower cancer prevention groups and networks
  • Understand the issues and barriers faced by communities in the lifestyle choices they make

The work will connect to the Cancer Vanguard’s national work with the People and Communities Board on the six principles for new care models, shown below.
