From April 2013 local Healthwatch replaced the Local Involvement Networks (LINks) as the "consumer voice" in health and social care. It is important that local Healthwatch learns from the experience of the LINks to ensure they become the best they can be, and to prevent "reinventing the wheel". Govtoday is pleased to announce Healthy Communities 2012, the 2nd National Conference and Exhibition to explore the Healthy Communities Agenda. Delivering healthier, happier and longer lives will be held at the prestigious Brewery Conference Centre, London, on Wednesday 19th September 2012.
Healthy Communities 2012: Delivering Healthier, Happier and Longer Lives is our second Annual National Conference examining the priorities ahead for Healthcare professionals whilst providing an invaluable insight into the latest policy directives.
This year’s conference will focus on the causes behind health inequality and the current threats to public health such as obesity, smoking, air quality and lack of exercise whilst exploring the solutions sought in the creation of truly healthy communities, as well as the pivotal role localism has to play in this agenda.

Healthwatch England was formed in April 2013 and is the independent consumer champion for health and social care in England. They have now published a list of local Healthwatch, including those for the North West
The Local Government Chronicle held a webinar to explore the essential elements to ensure local healthwatch organisations are effective in scrutinising local health services and provide a voice for communities. Regional Voices, of which VSNW are a part, are mentioned.
