The first meeting to re-launch the North West Equality and Diversity Group (NWEDG) took place on 20th September at British Council Office in Manchester. Guest speakers included Olivia Butterworth, The Department of Health’s Big Society lead, Tista Chakravarty-Gannon, Regional Liaison for the General Medical Council and Jane Franklin, Deputy Head of Equality and Diversity for the British Council. The event provided interesting insight into equality and diversity strategies and initiatives within the NHS, General Medical Council and the British Council, and promoted the sharing of information and best practice between member organisations supporting equalities groups across the North West region.
The next meeting will take place on Monday 28th November 2011, 10:00am – 12:00pm at The Gateway Community Resource Centre in Warrington www.thegateway.org.uk. Guest speakers include Christine Burns, Equality and Diversity Manager for NHS North West, Heather Williams from Lesbian and Gay Foundation and Margaret McLeod, Policy Network Officer (Health & Social Care) from VSNW / Transition Alliance.
