The national evaluation of the Future Jobs Fund is now published. The research is based on almost 30,000 FJF jobs across seven areas of the UK, the biggest evaluation of the programme to date.
The research found that FJF was successful in supporting people with complex barriers to gain work, and that it was more successful than other initiatives in sustaining people in work beyond 6 months.
Whilst the costs were relatively high, they are not as high as reported by Ministers once all factors are taken in to account, such as savings to benefits and return to government through tax and NIC.
There is also evidence to suggest that similar initiatives could be delivered with less money and that more outcomes could have been achieved with design modifications.
The Future Jobs Fund has now been abolished.
