Final deadline for Access to Volunteering grants
16 August 2010
The final deadline for Access to Volunteering grants is 6th September 2010.
To date, 283 voluntary, disability and community organisations have received funds of between £250 - £5000 to help disabled people volunteer. The fund is keen to receive applications from organisations that are new to volunteering, and that aim to overcome the attitudinal barriers that sometimes prevent disabled people from volunteering.
The latest awards from the Office for Civil Society's pilot scheme, which is operating in three test regions, include:
► The Everton Foundation in the North West, who were granted just under £5000, to give 10 disabled volunteers training in sports coaching, refereeing, IT, web design, office administration and PR.
► The Ramblers Association who received just over £2000 for disabled volunteers in Greater London to design, trial, promote and launch an ‘Accessible Walks’ programme.
► Arts 50 Alive! in the West Midlands whose £5000 grant will fund an ‘Allotment Project’ that partners disabled adults with young people in a combination of traditional activities, such as gardening and jam making, with present day computer and IT skills.
To find out more about current Access to Volunteering projects, and how to apply visit the website, e-mail or call the helpline on 03000 123 346.
