The new health White Paper: have your say
19 July 2010
The White Paper on health, ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’ was published on 12th July and sets out the Government's vision for the NHS. The proposals represent some of the biggest changes to the NHS in the last 60 years and provide both opportunities and challenges for our sector.
Through
Regional Voices (the network of regional voluntary sector infrastructure bodies), a series of regional workshops will be held during September in partnership with the Department of Health, to inform the sector and to gather views.
Why should I attend?
Contained within the White Paper are plans which include a shake-up of the design and delivery of health and care services locally. These will be administered by Consortia consisting of local authorities, GPs and communities. It is through communities that the voluntary and community sector might have the opportunity to influence, shape and deliver services as appropriate. In this context, it is important that as many support and frontline VCS organisations as possible attend these events.
You will have the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the proposals by hearing directly from Senior Department of Health officials leading in these areas, and to feedback directly on the 5 consultation topics that will be released shortly in relation to the White Paper. Regional Voices will use feedback from these events to help inform our response to each of the 5 consultation areas.
Who should attend?
If you currently deliver, or plan to deliver, health and care services, you should be aware of the proposals contained within the White Paper and how they will affect you.
Where and when?
The workshop for the North West will take place in September. A date and venue will be published shortly but if you would like to register your early interest in attending, please email your name and organisation to
margaret.mcleod@vsnw.org.uk. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
You can find the White Paper along with related documents on the Department of Health website at
www.dh.gov.uk/liberatingthenhs. VSNW and its sister networks in the other eight English regions (known as Regional Voices) are currently producing a briefing paper on the key proposals outlined in the White Paper; this will be available by Friday 23July on the
Regional Voices website and shortly after on the
VSNW website.
