Consultation on distribution of Lottery money

8 June 2010

The Department of Culture Media and Sports (DCMS) is currently consulting on how lottery money for good causes should be distributed in future, with the ultimate aim of restoring shares of the National Lottery Distribution Fund to 20 per cent each to sport, heritage and the arts.

Currently 16.67 per cent of Lottery funding goes to each of Arts, Sport and Heritage funding distributors, and 50 per cent goes to the BIG Lottery Fund, which distributes to the voluntary and community sector, health, education and environment.

The DCMS proposes to increase the percentage going to Arts, Sports and Heritage in two stages:
► From April 2011 18 per cent to each of Arts, Sport and Heritage distributors and 46 per cent to BIG.
► From April 2012 20 per cent to each of Arts, Sport and Heritage distributors and 40 per cent to BIG.
► In addition 100 per cent of BIG funding from now on will go to the VCS. It was about 92 per cent last year.

Further details of the consultation can be found at: www.culture.gov.uk.
The closing date for responses is 21 August 2010.
