2010 North West Listening Campaign: Grassroots Experiences of Poverty and Exclusion

30 March 2010

As part of the European Year for Combating Poverty (2010) it is spending the first half of the year uncovering the main issues that keep people in poverty.   It will

• Uncover some of the barriers and policy issues that keep people in poverty;
• Identify some of the myths about people in poverty and develop a programme of work to tackle them;
• Recognise and share examples of good practice in tackling poverty, particularly amongst small local organisations;
• Build the capacity of small organisations to campaign on issues in their local area.

To find out the issues and myths needed to tackle and build support across the region, they are  asking community groups and organisations to run local activities to listen to people experiencing poverty. The activity can take any form and will identify up to three policy issues, or three myths, that people with experience of poverty think need to be tackled.
