New £1 million fund for faith groups from CLG

19 March 2010

Communities Secretary John Denham has launched a raft of measures aimed at helping faith groups to get their voices heard by government and public bodies, and to play their part in delivering public services.

The new measures include:

A £1 million Faith Leadership in Government Fund: national faith-based organisations can apply for a share to help them develop a bigger voice and strengthen capacity to challenge and engage government.
A £50,000 Innovation in Faith-Based Social Action Prize: to publicise and reward faith-motivated projects that are finding new ways to meet local problems, bring people together and meet the needs of local communities.
A new 'myth-busting' guide for local government on working with faith groups: intended to help deal with confusion over commissioning services from faith-based groups.

The measures were announced at the Faith and Social Action: Innovation and Enterprise conference in London earlier this week.
