NHS North West makes seven commitments to the third sector

26 November 2009

Mike Farrar, Chief Executive of NHS NW, at VSNW'09 (VSNW's conference and AGM) outlined seven commitments to the third sector in the North West over the next 12 months

Given the current context:Mike Farrar CBE, Chief Executive of NHS NW
  • that 2010/2011 is likely to be the last year of substantial increases in the amount of funding going to the NHS
  • that there is a pressing need to identify ways in which PCTs and trusts can deliver services, over the coming years, in a more efficient and cost-effective way
  • that the third sector is a key resource that can provide answers and innovation

NHS NW is committed to ensuring that
  1. PCTs, Trusts and NHS NW do not reduce share of funding to VCS in the next 12 months
  2. PCTs, Trusts and NHS NW do not reduce the level of VCS engagement in the commissioning process (ie in co-designing services)
  3. That NHS NW and the VCS in the NW explore ways of using NHS personnel development systems to enhance the leadership skills of VCS organisations operating in the North West
  4. That NHS NW and the VCS in the NW explore ways of using NHS office space (eg empty spaces in some LIFT initiatives) to support VCS groups and bring NHS and VCS personnel into closer working contact
  5. That we support the development of quality accounts that examine VCS engagement
  6. That we support the development of World Class Commissioning metrics to support closer working with and skills development of VCS groups
  7. That we identify and promote models of good practice particularly where GPs engage with communities
