ARC Training for All programme rolled out to North West

21 September 2009

With funding from Capacity Builders' Improving Reach programme ARC is working with BME VCS social care organisations to develop protocols to improve access to and knowledge of the training needs of the BME VCS Social Care sector.

The project will ensure more small BME VCS Social Care organisations in England receive high-quality support services which are appropriate for them. The protocols will enable them to link into nationally recognised training that takes account of their cultural needs, thereby ensuring such organisations are fully able to maximise their potential and increase their day-to-day focus on services that they deliver to BME service users including people with learning disabilities.

The first year of this project was focused on the East Midlands, and let to the development of a set of flexible protocols for BME VCS social care organisations and training deliverers. Now in the second year the project is being rolled out to the North West and West Midlands. It is hoped that BME VCS social care organisations and training providers in the region will sign up to the developed protocols.

There will also be training events to promote and explain the implementation of the protocols. A new Training for All project website will also be launched. The project will then go national from 2010.

The Association for Real Change (ARC) is a national umbrella organisation for service providers, which seeks to support, develop and promote learning disability services in the UK and Europe. The Association provides a range of services to its members and seeks to act as a forum through which service providers can approach central and local government departments.
