Plans for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in the North West

Government Office North West has started a public consultation on proposed revisions to the Regional Spatial Strategy (pubished September 2008).
The revisions include policies relating to the accommodation requirements of Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople to ensure that these communities have access to an appropriate number and distribution of pitches. Revised regional parking standards are also included.
The consultation follows extensive work led by the North West Regional Leaders Board, 4NW, with input from local authorities and the gypsy and traveller and travelling showpeople communities within the region.
The consultation will last until 19 October, and the responses considered by an independent panel which will conduct an Examination in Public in March 2010 and provide recommendations on any changes to the proposals.
