Tightropes and Safety Nets: Supporting Suicidal Young Men
12 March 2010
Liverpool
Working with and supporting people who are suicidal, particularly young men, can be one of the most difficult personal and professional challenges for any helping professional. Having the confidence to name suicide and therefore help the person explore their own suicidality and its meaning can take us all into precarious territory; the fear and cost of ‘getting it wrong’ can be profound.
Dr Reeves will consider the demands of working with suicidal potential and how we can all be silenced by fear and stigma. The importance of talking with someone about their suicidal thoughts and how this can be achieved will be explored.
