Community groups under threat: where does true resilience lie?
12 July 2012 09:30 - 13:30
Kings House Conference Centre, Sidney Street, Manchester, M1 7HB
Speakers at this event will include:
- Eve Davidson and Dr Carol Packham from Manchester Metropolitan University, who will speak on the results and recommendations of a recent survey of small community groups in the North West which show that not only is there an increased demand for the services and resources provided by these groups, but that crucially these groups are now struggling to continue. This research was also supported by Community North West.
- Adrian Nolan from the Centre for Local Economic Strategies, who will explain the usefulness of their resilience model and will highlight a project which brings together all sectors in order to build a stronger Cheetham Hill. John Butler from Manchester Alliance for Community Care will give an update on how local groups, services and businesses in Cheetham Hill are now working together to improve Cheetham Park.
- Penny Waterhouse from The National Coalition for Independent Action (NCIA), who will highlight examples of social action against the cuts and will argue that what is needed is the effective use of community power, the making of alliances and the confidence to dissent and oppose.
This seminar will be chaired by Richard Caulfield, Chief Executive, Voluntary Sector North West.
