An Introduction to Therapeutic Work with People with Learning Disabilities

What will be covered?

- Discover how insights and approaches from counselling and psychotherapy can help provide more meaningful and effective interventions in work with people with learning disabilities.

- Learn more about suitable therapeutic interventions with this client group

- An introductory platform for further professional development in psychotherapy, and/or training in the learning disabilities field.

Who should attend?

- Anyone who works with children, young people and adults with learning disabilities

- The workshops would therefore be of interest to teachers, social workers, mental health workers, teaching assistants, care workers and others, including volunteers.

The workshops are designed in two parts (the second date is Saturday 9th June 2012) so as to enable people attending to build and maximise learning, and reflect on skills and insights deployed at an appropriate level in their workplace. However, it would be possible to attend the first workshop only and if someone interested could demonstrate suitable knowledge and skills, they may be able to attend the second one only. Students will receive a CPD certificate of attendance.

The fee for each workshop is £50 plus VAT and includes refreshments and lunch. To book a place, complete the booking form and return it to NHS & Social Care Unit, School of Health, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, PR1 2HE or email it to Cjones11@uclan.ac.uk.
