Earth Rights: A North West Conversation

26 November 2010 10:00 - 16:00

Bridge 5 Mill, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 7HR

The UN General Assembly has approved a resolution to develop a Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth, and this day will give us the opportunity to consider how we, as global citizens based in the North West, can engage, create awareness, inspire action and generate support for this agenda. For a general introduction to the topic visit www.motherearthrights.org.

The event will bring together representatives from environmental campaign groups, arts and cultural organisations, wildlife groups, educationalists and academics, community groups and members of the legal profession, to discuss the values and implications inherent in Earth Rights through a combination of short presentations and 'world café' style conversations.

During the day there will be an overview of Earth Rights from the international environmental campaigner and barrister, Polly Higgins. We will also examine what evidence we have of 'Wild Law' in practice with Begonia Filgueira, a solicitor and a director of the Environmental Regulation and Information Centre.

If you require more information  call Raihael Lock on 0161 273 8881 or Jenny Nelson and Caroline Downey on 0161 273 1736. Places are strictly limited, to reserve your place please email jenn@merci.org.uk with your name, organisation, telephone number and dietary requirements.
