We know that awareness of dementia amongst black and minority ethnic communities is lower than in the general population and that these communities are under-represented in dementia services. There is therefore a need to increase awareness and understanding of the incidence and prevalence of dementia in BME communities and what constitutes effective support, as well as collating and sharing knowledge with health and social care practitioners on effective diagnosis.
